La struttura su larga scala tracciata da galassie e AGN

In detail

The MOONS spectrograph will be able to perform medium- and high-resolution spectroscopy for hundreds of millions of galaxies and AGNs up to a cosmological time reaching a few billion years after the Big Bang, and in some specific cases even beyond. This enormous abundance of spectroscopic data will allow us not only to study in detail the physical processes that led to their formation and evolution, but also to investigate these processes in relation to the environment these galaxies and AGN occupy and the large-scale structure they trace. This information will be vital in terms of the general scope of galaxy formation and evolution, but also in providing information of a cosmological nature. To achieve our goals we will make use of statistical methods such as two- and multi-point correlation functions, cell counts, power spectrum studies as well as studies of the density and velocity fields tracked by galaxies and AGN observed with MOONS.
