Winds on Venus speed up

Data form ESA spacecraft Venus Express and published on Icarus and The Journal of Geophysical Research show that in six years, the wind that move Venus’ clouds have sped up from 300 to 400 km/h. The physical reasons are being studied. (source: media INAF)

Six years of observations by ESA’s Venus Express have shown large changes in the sulphur dioxide content of the planet’s atmosphere, and one intriguing possible explanation is volcanic eruptions.
