Rosetta at the comet

6 of august 2014: the european spacecraft Rosetta arrives at comet  67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko after a 10 year journey. The moment is celebrated at ESA-ESOC di Darmstadt, with a live event. Among the team at ESOC, Fabrizio Capaccioni, PI of the VIRTIS instrument.

Rosetta’s commissioning

Rosetta‘s commissioning has started and the scientific instruments onboard the orbiter and the lander are waking up one by one, sending to Earth their “first-light”. Among them, two IAPS instruments: GIADA (commissioning 28th of March) and VIRTIS(commissioning previewed for the 7th of april).

Vesta’s first thermal map

The first map of the thermal properties of asteroid Vesta was published in an article of the Geophysical Research Letters. The map was made thanks to the data collected by VIR, the spectrometer built at IAPS, flying onboard Dawn mission.
