COSPAR (Committee on Space Research) was created by ICSU (International Council of Scientific Unions) in 1958 to continue the research programs dedicated to missiles and satellites that began in the International Geophysics Year 1957-1958.  Since 2005 l’Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) is a member of COSPAR.
COSPAR‘s objectives are to promote scientific research in space, with emphasis on the exchange of results, information and opinions, and to provide a forum, open to all scientists, for the discussion of problems that may affect scientific space research. These objectives are achieved through the organization of Scientific Assemblies, publications and other means.

IAPS collaborates with COSPAR and the ex Director Pietro Ubertini was named COSPAR Italian Representative.
IAPS also hosts the official website of the Italian COSPAR commitee http://www.iaps.inaf.it/cospar
In 2016, INAF also published an Italian Report to the 41st Scientific Assembly del COSPAR, that can be downloaded at this link
